The ENAL, EXAL and KIAL Heavy Talonite Armor are advanced variants of XX Heavy Talonite Armor that also resist Alien Damage.

Strategy and Setup

Advantages

XXAL Heavy Talonite Armor is useful in most situations where you would use XX Heavy Talonite Armor of the same type. Its Alien resistance enables your ships to be optimized against most Alien Event Targets which almost always deal Alien Damage to some extent.

Disadvantages

XXAL Heavy Talonite Armor is less mass- and XP-efficient than XX Heavy Talonite Armor without utilizing its Alien damage resistance. Ship weapons that are of A.X.I.S. level or higher are least efficient in their Xeno version (except for cruiser-restricted weapons), which deal Alien damage, causing such weapons to be rarely used. Therefore, this armor may not be as useful in PvP.

Trivia

The "AL" in XXAL Heavy Talonite Armor stands for Alien
This item is no longer available to Umbra hulls after the late April 2019 update to facilitate the rock-paper-scissors system between T7 factions. Existing items will be replaced by Elemental Node Armor pieces in the May 2019 update.
Along with other T6 equipment, this item's build time was significantly reduced during the late April 2019 update as summarized here.
Its repair time was nullified as a result of the early February 2021 update, which updated the repair time of all Tier 6 ships to be invariant to equipment.
