General
The Ballistic Sabot is an Altairian Special for Driver weapons, capable of boosting the Projectile Range of Driver weapons at the cost of reduced firing range. It does not take up any mass on the ship.
Unlike most other weapon specials, this one can be stacked with itself.
Strategy and Setup
Advantages
The Ballistic Sabot is a good complement for the Inquisitor Destroyer's Ballista Overdrive, allowing driver weapon projectiles to fly even further than their maximum range. The boost is so large that projectiles are able to fly through an entire base, piercing modules as they go, multiplying the damage dealt by extremely large amounts.
In addition, it does not take up any weapon mass, freeing up space for heavier weapons and armor.
Disadvantages
The Ballistic Sabot reduces the firing range of equipped weapons, meaning weapons fire at a shorter distance than before. Usually, this will severely hamper the effectiveness of long-range ships like destroyers.
