Thonian Armor is an Umbra-only Armor, that is capable of enhancing the amount of Ablative Health regained by Ablation.

Spectral, Shockwave and Deflector Thonian Armors provide damage resistance, in addition to slightly higher Ablative Recovery.

Strategy and Setup[ | ]

Advantages[ | ]

Thonian Armor and its Elemental variants increase Ablative Recovery without also increasing the Damage Threshold, allowing ships to regenerate more Ablative Health for the same damage output and thus improving their survivability.

Elemental Thonian Armor enables ships to become much more effective against opponents that use the respective damage type, as the incoming damage will be partially nullfied by the armor's resistance. Note that armor resistance is also applied to Ablative Health.

Disadvantages[ | ]

The extra Ablative Recovery given by Thonian Armor and its variants is not that important if you are fighting against other Umbra ships, since the outcome of the battle is mainly determined by which side loses all of its Ablative Health first. Even if you max out your ships with Thonian Armor, it won't reverse the tide of battle as long as the opponent is getting 10x Ablative Recovery by directly damaging your health.

While Thonian Armor III does give extra Ablative Recovery, keep in mind that it is significantly less mass-efficient than the level II version.

Unless you expect your ships to take certain types of damage, avoid using Elemental Thonian Armor as it takes up significantly more mass with little defensive benefit if the incoming damage type is not resisted.

Trivia[ | ]

This item originally enjoyed twice the listed armor mass reduction from upgraded Wraith Cruisers; this has been fixed in the update of August 2018.
After a patch in January 2018, Thonian Armor was briefly unaffected by armor mass modifiers, which was subsequently rectified within a matter of hours.
Elemental Thonian Armor provides the same health as Thonian Armor III, with additional mass to compensate for the damage resistance.
This item's build time was significantly reduced during the late April 2019 update as summarized here.
Its repair time was nullified as a result of the late September 2020 update, which updated the repair time of all Tier 7 ships to be invariant to equipment.
