General[ | ]

The Empyreal Burst, when activated, charges up a huge shockwave (a glint can be seen from the ship upon initiation). It is centered on the ship using the trigger and damages all enemies within, applying Explosive DoT Stacks.

The shockwave fires normally even when no enemy is in range - the maximum range is shown in combat to allow users to better visualize the AoE Radius.

Strategy and Setup[ | ]

Advantages[ | ]

This trigger is almost a guaranteed hit due to its massive AoE radius and extremely short warning time. As it often hits multiple ships at once, it consistently outperforms the Positron Bolt in terms of damage dealt even though its base damage is lower. It is especially powerful against player bases as modules are often clustered together.

Apart from dealing damage, it also applies a huge amount of Damage Over Time stacks, possibly destroying enemies that survive the initial blast. Unlike other DoT sources, the damage type is Explosive (instead of Plasma) and is therefore not innately resisted by non-Umbra ships.

Empyreal Bursts are extremely dangerous against bases. Its gigantic blast radius has led to some people simply sending a single Tier 8 ship with an Empyreal Burst and obliterating a large chunk of a base with a single charge.

Disadvantages[ | ]

Its Damage Over Time effect provides much fewer stacks unless enemies have dropped their defense, and even then, the DoT can only eat away at health and ablative armor, thus making it rather useless against non-Umbra ships or bases overall.

Compared to the Positron Bolt and Azide Mine, this trigger has a relatively short maximum range of effect.

As it does Explosive damage, any equipment that allows a ship or base module to resist it can survive its damage over time effect and fight back.

Those who use Empyreal Burst-armed ships against bases rarely fit anything else, making them easy prey if that base has Arrestor Beam Turrets and guns strong enough to destroy a ship with a Trigger slot (T8 and T9 ships)

Trivia[ | ]

  • The Empyreal Burst is the last trigger item to be released for Tier 8.
  • This is the first instance where Damage Over Time deals Explosive Damage.
  • It also has the highest Damage Threshold to DoT Stack ratio so far (1 to 2).
  • The mass requirement of all trigger items was removed in the late October 2020 update.
