General

The Apex Impaler is a special for Blight Driver weapons such as the Blight Atomic Driver, granting it the ability to pierce, as well as bonuses to projectile speed, splash radius, module damage.

Strategy and Setup

Advantages

The Apex Impaler is specifically designed for Blight Atomic Driver in base combat, although it comes with the added effect of making Blight Atomic Drivers viable for fvf, and makes Medusa Destroyers even more of a fearsome opponent to face in combat. By increasing the Splash radius and projectile speed, it makes it harder for enemy ships to dodge the projectiles, meaning enemy ships are more likely to take much more damage when facing a group of Medusas in combat.

The Special also adds the ability to pierce, meaning driver projectiles can pierce through multiple targets, and in the case of the Blight Atomic Driver cause multiple explosions as it pierces through targets, thus allowing a group of Medusas to completely obliterate tightly grouped ships together.

The Special also has the advantage of boosting module damage, making the Blight Atomic Driver much more suited to base attacks, allowing the Medusa to hit multiple modules and deal wide spread damage.

Disadvantages

The Special is heavy, having a much higher mass requirement (12% ship mass) as compared to previous specials. It is restricted to the Umbra, and only Blight Driver weapons can benefit from its buffs.

There also currently only exists one Blight Driver weapon, the Blight Atomic Driver, which thus limits customizability and usage.

Trivia

• This is the first of 3 blight weapon specials, and the first to provide the ability to pierce.
